The political landscape of Ward 1 in Akinyele Local Government witnessed a significant moment today, 18th June 2026, as AKINSANMI OLAJIRE formally declared his intention to represent the wonderful people of Ward 1 in the Akinyele Local Government legislative arm, ahead of the Oyo State Local Government elections scheduled for December 2026.

Making his declaration under the umbrella of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) , Olajire addressed a large gathering of enthusiastic supporters, community elders, party faithful, and residents of the four major areas that make up the ward, Ikereku, Oyada, Faleye, and Ago. The event which came up at Ikereku, was marked by an outpouring of solidarity from the people, signaling the growing acceptance of the youthful aspirant as a credible force in the upcoming election.

In his address, Olajire unveiled what he termed his vision of “proximity governance”, a leadership philosophy anchored on bringing representation closer to the grassroots. He emphasized that governance must not be a distant affair but one where the voices of the people actively shape decisions affecting their daily lives. He lamented the disconnect that has often characterized local governance and promised to restore the confidence of the people through accessibility, accountability, and participatory leadership.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Ward 1,” Olajire declared. “I am not here to occupy a seat; I am here to serve. I am here to ensure that dividends of democracy reach Ward 1. I am here to prove that the youths of this ward are not just ready to lead but to deliver transformative change.”

Despite his youthful age, Olajire is widely regarded as a seasoned leader with a proven track record of community engagement and grassroots mobilization. He pledged to prioritize transparent management of ward resources. He also promised to institute quarterly town hall meetings to ensure that the people remain active participants in governance and that their concerns are promptly addressed.

The declaration event attracted political heavyweights and community stakeholders, underscoring the growing momentum behind Olajire’s candidacy. In a strong show of endorsement, key figures including Prince Olusegun Akinsanmi, Hon. Adeleke Olufemi, and Hon. Adewale Moses stood solidly behind the aspirant, affirming his capacity to unite the ward and deliver meaningful development. Their presence at the event sent a clear message of unity within the APM and the party’s determination to present a formidable front in the December polls.

Equally notable was the presence of the party’s leadership and community elders, whose support lends both political and cultural weight to the ambition. In his remarks, Olajire paid glowing tribute to Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola and Elder Bayo Kode, describing them as prominent leaders and reliable pillars of the ward whose contributions to the community remain invaluable.

The party leaders, in their respective addresses, enjoined residents of the ward to embrace an aspirant they described as a “bridge-builder” and “a true son of the soil.” They urged the people to look beyond partisan divisions and rally behind a man whose track record of community service and grassroots engagement has already endeared him to many across the four communities.

Political observers note that Olajire’s emergence as a leading contender for the Ward 1 Councillorship position reflects a broader shift in Nigerian politics, where youthful energy and fresh ideas are increasingly finding expression at the grassroots level. His message of accountability, transparency, and proximity governance appears to resonate with a populace eager for change and tired of distant representation.

With the December 2026 election on the horizon, the people of Ward 1 now have before them an aspirant who embodies their hopes and aspirations, a youthful, energetic, and widely accepted leader ready to chart a new course for their communities. As the State electoral season gets closer, all eyes are on AKINSANMI OLAJIRE as he leads the charge under the banner of the Allied Peoples Movement.
The road to December has begun, and if the events of today are anything to go by, the race for Ward 1 is poised to be one of the most keenly contested in Akinyele Local Government.
