The race for the Oyo Central Senatorial seat in 2027 has officially gathered momentum as the Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, formally declared his intention to contest for the position. The declaration signals the beginning of what promises to be a keenly contested political season in the senatorial district, drawing attention from party faithful, stakeholders, and the general public across Oyo State.

Barr. Olaleye made his declaration at a well attended gathering held at the Oyo Central Senatorial Office in Sagbe, Moniya, Ibadan. He was accompanied by Hon. Ogundare Abideen Adeoye, the lawmaker representing Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere State Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly. In his address, Barr Olasunkamnmi Olaleye expressed confidence in his ability to represent the people effectively, assuring party leaders and supporters that he would not disappoint if given the mandate. He highlighted his longstanding involvement in the current administration, noting that he has served diligently under five ministries in the past seven years as part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s team.

Speaking further, Olaleye emphasized his deep rooted commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing himself as a loyal party man who played a key role in strengthening the party’s presence in the Ogbomosho zone. He stressed that his broad experience in governance and law positions him as a strong candidate capable of delivering quality representation at the Senate. According to him, his understanding of the diverse needs of the people, regardless of class or background, will guide his legislative priorities if elected.

In his welcome remarks, the PDP Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Oludayo Opatokun, described the event as remarkable and indicative of the growing political engagement within the district. While acknowledging Barr Olasunkamnmi Olaleye as a capable aspirant, he maintained that the party remains open and committed to a transparent process that will allow the best candidate with widespread acceptance to emerge. He also commended Governor Seyi Makinde and the party leadership for their people oriented governance and continued support for democratic values in the State.
